Merit Badge Day 2019

Cost: $25 per Scout

Food: Lunch is provided. Eat Breakfast beforehand or bring something. Camping after!

Registration is open for the Hampden-Sydney Merit Badge College.

This is a great way for Scouts to earn two merit badges on a Saturday! Plus the boys have a lot of fun eating at the dining hall and being on the H-SC Campus.

Some merit badges have prerequisites which a Scout must complete before the day of the event, so be sure to have them completed before we go.

Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia is hosting a Merit Badge College February 23, 2019, open to all Boy Scout Troops in the Heart of Virginia Council.

Thanks to the support and involvement of the College administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni and the Farmville area community, we are able to offer a great day with merit badge sessions taught by qualified instructors. The merit badges will will offer for this event are:

American Business, Art, Bicycling, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Crime Prevention, Digital Technology, Fire Safety, First Aid, Fly Fishing, Forestry, Law, Scouting Heritage, Sports and Theater. All classes are half day classes except for Digital Technology which is an all day class. Scouts can register for up to two merit badge classes.

An all day Wilderness Survival Seminar for Adult Leaders is also available on the registration portal.

While you are here, we hope you will explore our 1330 acre historic campus.

Boy Scouts must be registered through their Troop.

No Provisional or individual scout registration allowed.

The fee for this event is $25 per Boy Scout and $20 for each Leader.

Merit Badge Information

For the merit badge sessions, we will issue a Merit Badge Certificate of Completion that is accepted by the Heart of Virginia Council and B.S.A. For Troops that require Blue Cards, that Troop must provide all of their Scouts with the completed and Troop Leader signed Blue Cards for the counselors to sign.

Each Scout is required to bring paper and pen or pencil to each merit badge session.

Each Scout is expected to live up to the Scout Oath and Law while in each merit badge session. Any Scout not doing so will be sent back to his troop leader.

It is recommended each Scout obtain the merit badge pamphlet(s) for his chosen badges and have read it prior to the event.

Tentative Schedule

7:00AM-8:00AM Check-in at lobby lower of Kirby Fieldhouse

8:15AM Assemble in Kirby Fieldhouse

8:15-8:30AM Presentation

8:30AM Depart for 1st Merit Badge Session

8:45AM-12:00PM 1st merit badge session

12:15PM-1:15PM Lunch at Pannill Commons in Settle Hall

1:15-1:20PM Assemble in front of Settle Hall to go to 2nd Session

1:30PM-4:45PM 2nd merit badge session

4:45-5:00PM Return to Kirby Fieldhouse, Troops free to depart

Prerequisites are required for the following merit badges:

1. Citizenship in the Nation: Requirements 2 and 3.

2. Citizenship in the World: Requirements 3 a and 3 b.

3. Digital Technology: 1, 3c, 3d, 3e, 4b, 5b, 6, 8d, 8e.

4. First Aid: 2d and review Merit Badge worksheet (pamphlet)

5. Forestry: Bring items for requirement 1.

6. Fly Fishing: Requirement 10 and proof that you have a caught a fish before. This could be testimony from an adult leader, picture, etc..

7. Theater: Come prepared to discuss requirement 1.
