Camping   Checklists   Summer Camp

Troop 770 | Summer Camp 2018

When: Sunday June 24 through Saturday June 30, 2018

Where: Blue Ridge Scout Reservation | Camp Ottari | 2881 Simpkinstown Rd, Hiwassee, VA 24347

Camp Ottari is roughly 3.5-4.0 hour drive from Richmond in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Camp Ottari is known for its rugged beauty, large lake, food quality, 800 ft. zip line and no mosquitos. Their merit badge list appears extensive including firearms, small craft boating, handicrafts and an assortment of Eagle required merit badges.

List of Merit Badges and Schedule here (see Page 4).

Advanced Badge: badges in this category are the most difficult to complete at summer camp due to the course content, number of prerequisites, and expected ability level of the Scouts. Advanced badges are highly recommended for your oldest Scouts who are First Class and above.

Moderate Badge: badges in this category can be easily earned at camp by experienced Scouts but have a few prerequisites to complete at home.

Basic Badge: badges in this category have few, if any, prerequisites. These courses are excellent for Scouts of all ages and
ability levels.

When signing your Scouts up for merit badges, please refer to the Ottari camp map and take note that there is a sizable hill between the upper camp program areas of Nature and Handicraft and the lower camp program areas of Shooting Sports, Scoutcraft, and Aquatics. Please schedule so that your scouts will have time to travel between classes!

Please email Tim Owens if you have any questions.

There are a number of options for older scouts who do not want the traditional summer camp and/or do not need offered merit badges. Dates/Fees/Transportation is the same (Except SCUBA). Upon arrival, these scouts will join their program of choice which will facilitated by Ottari Staff (no Troop parent required). To see offerings, check here

Check out the opportunities for High Adventure camp for next summer.  You can go on your own and join other Scouts from around the Country and around the world at BSA High Adventure Camps!

In 2016, Troop 770 Scouts went
to Philmont Scout Ranch to backpack for 12 days in the New Mexico wilderness.
