Scoutmaster's Message

Scouts & Parents,
The highlight of the Troop 770 Scouting year will definitely be Scout Sunday and the Eagle Ceremony yesterday! It was a truly special event. Thank you to Rod & Ruma Adams, Marcia Palmer, Laura Murray, Karen Phillips, Mary Jones, Brooke Farley, and all the parents who helped organize it! Troop 770 has had an impressive 32 Scouts attain the rank of Eagle since 1999--and it is very significant that 6 were added to the rolls yesterday!

All Scouts who do not have First Aid merit badge should consider attending the First Aid merit badge session arranged by Tena Lustig at the Church on Monday, February 16.  See below for details. This is a great way to earn an Eagle-required badge in one day--for many Scouts, it is the first badge they earn (it was for both my sons)! There is one prerequisite (do beforehand): make a home first aid kit.

The next Troop camping event is the Ski Trip - don't forget your money and forms are due tomorrow, February 10th. Bring them by my house any time or to Second Baptist on River & Gaskins at 7:30pm tomorrow night (upstairs in theeducation building). I'll have my cell phone with me! Details and Forms.

February 28th is the Hampden-Sydney Merit Badge weekend. We will be leaving early Saturday morning and camping overnight Saturday night.  It's not too late to sign up.  Details here.

Scoutbook: We are introducing some advancement tracking software for the adult leaders, parents, and (if each parent chooses) Scouts to keep up with advancement.  Scouts will still use their Scout Handbooks, but the adult leaders will be entering that information in Scoutbook.  Look for an email from me through Scoutbook very soon! There is also a link to Scoutbook under the Advancement Menu on the Troop Website. I think you will all find it to be a very useful tool.  If you do not get the introductory email this week, please let me know. Also please let me know if you have any questions about using it. It works great on iPhones and iPads/tablets.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the Troop meeting Sunday where we will work on advancement. Bring those handbooks!
