3 Earn Eagle Scout Rank

Citizen Staff Reports 09/15/15 Three members of Boy Scouts Troop 770 from River Road Presbyterian Church recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

The three – William Evans, Dillard "Trey" Laughlin and Anthony Q. Vinson II – are students at Freeman High School. For their Eagle Scout projects, Evans constructed two picnic tables for Deep Bottom Park in Eastern Henrico; Laughlin directed a large group of Scouts in the construction of benches for a Section 8 housing development; and Vinson landscaped a garden and installed a stone walkway at the Little Sisters of the Poor, which he funded through gifts and donations.

The three teens are led by Scout Master David Bernhardt. Their Eagle Scout ceremony will be held Sept. 20 at River Road Presbyterian Church.

In addition to being involved with Troop 770, Evans has been a member of Kanawha’s Dive team for 12 years serving as a dive coach the past two seasons. He is a member of the Jr. Bass High School fishing team, has been a member of Freeman’s lacrosse team, has been involved with the Latin Club and is a musician and member of a three-piece band. In addition, he has been on the honor roll at Freeman.

Laughlin is active in his church, River Road Presbyterian, and is an honor student at Freeman. He's also the starting quarterback for Freeman's football team and was a key contributor to the Freeman lacrosse team during last year's season and state tournament.

Vinson is an active member in Troop 770. He also is a competitive year-round swimmer at Nova. This summer he was an assistant coach for Kanawha Swim Team and maintained a landscaping business that he established in the sixth grade.
