House Mountain May 1-3, 2015

Scouts backpacked at House Mountain May 1-3, 2015.  We arrived Friday evening and camped at the Hagan cabin where the Scouts prepared chicken and rice in a Dutch Oven followed by S'mores Cake in the Dutch oven.

On Saturday, the Scouts fixed a sausage and egg "Mountain Man" breakfast in the Dutch oven.  The Troop hiked to view some waterfalls.  Lunch was hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill.  After lunch, the Scouts loaded up their packs and climbed over 2 miles and 1,000 feet in elevation to the campsite at the Saddle between Big House and Little Hose Mountains.

After setting up camp, Scouts spent a few hours doing trail maintenance on the new trail to the top of Little House Mountain. They built a staircase and learned how to line the trail with rocks and logs to encourage soil to gather on the trail. They also leveled the trail removing rocks, roots, and other obstructions.

Dinner was freeze-dried meals, and the Scouts slept well after all the work.  We departed Sunday morning after breakfast and used maps and compasses to navigate back.

Thanks to the Hagan family for hosting!
